Hey, Class of 2014: APPLY FOR PRE-ORIENTATION!
HEY YOU!
Are you going to be a freshman at Colgate this fall? Are you interested in radio? Do you love music (any genre--literally anything! Classical to country, WRCU wants to hear it)? Or maybe you love talking and fancy yourself a future ESPN sports commentator or the next Oprah Winfrey talk show host? Maybe politics or news are more up your alley--any future Al Franken or Rush Limbaugh's want their opinions heard or are you an NPR junkie wanting to have your voice heard over the airwaves? If you're considering joining the 180+ WRCU student DJs (Colgate's LARGEST student organization!), there is NO better way than to be involved before your semester even starts! So read on...
Whatever your area of interest, WRCU WANTS YOU for our freshman Pre-Orientation program! Apply now under the "apply" heading and fill out the application by Sunday, July 18th. Join a great group of your fellow freshman a few days before regular move-in day for a great 3-day program full of workshops led by the WRCU student Board of Directors and awesome activities to immerse yourself in all things radio in Colgate's brand new top of the line Blackmore Media Center.
WHAT'S IT LIKE?
Activities include:
- Writing for Radio (want to sound like the pros you hear over the air? Well, we teach you how.)
- Publicizing Your Show and WRCU: Everything from Promo Items to Posters
- Presentations from alumni in the music industry
- Technical Training (learn how to work all the multi-million dollar equipment we have at our finger tips)
- And much, much more...
TIMELINE:
The application is due Sunday, July 18th, and the Board of Directors will review all the applications and choose the best candidates to be selected for Pre-Orientation. We will notify applicants by email of our decision by Sunday, July 25th. Accepted students will arrive on the morning of Monday, August 23rd and will be allowed to move into their dorms early (bonus!). After getting settled, Pre-O students and WRCU Board members will get together to tour the radio station, eat dinner and get to know each other while learning the fun and full schedule of workshops and activities on Tuesday and Wednesday. Regular move-in day and orientation begins on that Thursday.
QUESTIONS?
If you have any questions whatsoever about the application or the program or anything at all WRCU-related, feel free to contact the General Manager, Kevin Blatz (kblatz@students.colgate.edu) or the Program Director, Emma MacDonald (emacdonald@students.colgate.edu) and they'd be happy to answer any and all of your questions.
Thanks!
